The Forgotten Step After Leaving Your Comfort Zone That Actually Matters | Esam Touma | TEDxSSE

People often live in bubbles — schools, countries, friend groups — and grow reluctant to step outside them. This talk isn’t about leaving your own comfort zone, but about the power of entering someone else’s: a practice that builds empathy and becomes a superpower for truly understanding others. A student at SSE, Esam was born in Syria and, fleeing the war, eventually landed in Sweden, but the path there wasn't simple. Growing up between countries that often clashed in culture and norms, he was forced to constantly step out of his comfort zone. Through this, he discovered hidden lessons about human interaction. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at https://www.ted.com/tedx
