What if every young person had a caring mentor? | Gustavo Luna | TEDxHarvard Square

Harvard was never supposed to be part of Gustavo Luna’s story. As a teenager, he became an “unofficial foster youth” and later faced housing insecurity. Through the support of caring adults and mentors, he not only persevered but went on to earn two degrees from Harvard University, including a Doctor of Education. In this talk, Gustavo introduces audiences to the concept of collective impact, a movement designed to support young people from cradle to career. His message is clear: “You don’t need a fancy title or resources; you just need a caring heart.” His powerful words move audiences to action. He encourages organizations to collaborate in building systems of support within communities, and individuals to answer the call to mentorship. This talk reminds us that kindness, connection, and collective effort can change lives. Dr. Gustavo Luna is recent Doctoral graduate (EdLD) at the Harvard Graduate School of Education (HGSE). HGSE is also where I earned a Master’s degree in Human Development and Psychology. Previously, he founded two education companies and led one non-profit. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at https://www.ted.com/tedx
