This talk explores the intimacy and vulnerability involved in not only learning a new language but also speaking to native speakers. Using poetic devices, this discussion delves into what Botat has learned about conversing in her secondary language and the important lessons which can be yielded from migrants’ experiences. Building on statistics and real-life experiences, the audience will be invited to step into the lives of migrants, individuals often placed at the margins of society. This presentation debuts Ruchama Botat’s poem ‘Language poem/What I Learned From Losing my Language’ and uses this artistic expression as a means to provoke deep conversation on language, acceptance and vulnerability. This poem and the literary devices employed throughout the talk will demand that audience members be confronted with the reality of many migrants who are learning French for the first time in Montreal. All in all, this talk intends to leave spectators more introspective, more aware of the vulnerability involved in conversations and more confident in their voice. The psychological isolation of highly sensitive people makes them even more trapped in internal conflicts. Mingxuan Wang doesn't deny that the improper use of high sensitivity can have a significant negative impact on those people around them, but the solution is definitely not isolation. Instead, she thinks that it should be about allowing highly-sensitive people to gradually coexist harmoniously with themselves, recognizing their characteristics and using them reasonably to make their lives more comfortable, while also maintaining stable and long-term relationships with the people they care about. She hopes everyone can love themselves inside-out. The journey from unlucky to lucky is not merely a shift in external circumstances, but an outward manifestation of a profound change in mindset — one that reshapes our actions to stimulate completely different, and unexpectedly remarkable outcomes. When we successfully train ourselves to see the other side of negative emotions and unlucky events, we can gain the power to unveil the hidden potential and strength that lie deep within us. In this speech, Lianer Ma used the examples of Steve Jobs and Thomas Edison, and also her personal experience to articulate the importance of switching to a positive mindset. Initially consumed by frustration from my project, I eventually overcame it by a creative shift in my mindset. I discovered a new perspective: perhaps true failure is the most vivid way in demonstrating resilience, adaptability, and problem-solving skills.
