People often live in bubbles — schools, countries, friend groups — and grow reluctant to step outside them. This talk isn’t about leaving your own comfort zone, but about the power of entering someone else’s: a practice that builds empathy and becomes a superpower for truly understanding others. A student at SSE, Esam was born in Syria and, fleeing the war, eventually landed in Sweden, but the path there wasn't simple. Growing up between countries that often clashed in culture and norms, he was forced to constantly step out of his comfort zone. Through this, he discovered hidden lessons about human interaction. In video games, side quests are optional adventures outside the main storyline that add fun, depth, and unexpected rewards. Life has its own version too — pursuing these personal “side quests” builds resilience, creates connections, and leads to unforgettable experiences, like playing the world’s northernmost game of Spikeball or singing “O Holy Night” with Sweden’s ambassador to Korea. Ali is a final-year Master's in International Business student at SSE and leads the expansion of Baby VC into the Nordics.
