Community – not just people, but hearts | Vivaan Berry | TEDxYouth@TheShriramMillenniumSchoolNoida

In this speech, the speaker reflects on a journey that began during the COVID-19 lockdown with a small bottle garden project, leading to deeper involvement in social initiatives. Joining Hari Koshish sparked awareness of environmental empathy, followed by leadership roles in Project Kitab, promoting literacy through book drives. Work with “I Get Equality” raised over $10,600 to provide eye care for blue-collar workers. As head of Shri Sayog, the speaker engaged with diverse communities, from shelter homes to para-athletes, stressing that empathy means taking action. The core message: anyone, regardless of age or status, can lead change by caring and acting Vivaan Berry — a 12th grader, a backbencher, and someone who’s trying to break the stereotype that the back row can’t be focused. While he might joke around and not always seem like the most ‘conventional’ student, he has always believed that impact matters more than appearances. He currently serve as the President of Project Kitab, an initiative working to ensure equal access to education for underserved communities. He is also the Head of Finance at EyeCare Equality, where they provide affordable and accessible eye care to workers and families across the region. While school has shaped his thinking and values, these roles have pushed him to apply those lessons in the real world — through leading teams, managing finances, and learning what it means to lead with empathy. He believes in showing up, doing the work, and letting action speak louder than assumptions — even if he is doing it all from the back of the classroom.
