Beyond Borders | Bryony Whitmarsh | TEDxWeixiuyuan Road

If higher education is about more than knowledge—about belonging, connection, and responsibility—then inclusive internationalisation matters. In this TEDxWeixiuyuan Road talk, Bryony Whitmarsh argues that global engagement should be embedded for all students, and that designing education as a space of belonging is essential for the future we’re building. With over twenty years in higher education, she has shaped transformative learning experiences and global partnerships across the UK and beyond. A National Teaching Fellow of the UK Higher Education Academy, Bryony has led pioneering transnational education programmes with universities in Australia, China, Norway, and Singapore—expanding access to intercultural learning for thousands of students. A first-generation scholar, she champions social justice and equity in education, leading initiatives such as the University of Sanctuary programme and inclusive mobility projects funded by the UK Government’s Turing Scheme. Her leadership is defined by compassion, collaboration, and ethical care—creating communities where students and staff thrive. Her research explores memory, identity, and belonging, with a focus on South Asia, and has been recognised by the British Council and international education networks. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at https://www.ted.com/tedx
