Bridging the gaps between us | Jessi Mitchell | TEDxHarlem

Threading her story through the theme of bridges, CBS News anchor Jessi Mitchell shares her journey to discover how storytelling can bridge the gaps of understanding between people in different demographics and communities, from growing up in the journalism industry to her hire as CBS's first dedicated community Multi-Skilled Journalist in the country, covering Harlem. She empowers others to discover how they can use their own skills and passions to bring a positive impact to their neighborhood. Jessi Mitchell is a multi-skilled journalist for CBS News New York, focusing on Harlem, and anchors the 8PM Atlanta Now News on Atlanta 69. She earned a national Emmy covering breaking stories including the Atlanta spa shootings, Nashville’s Christmas bombing, and the murder of Ahmaud Arbery. Jessi previously reported in Oklahoma City, Colorado Springs, and Columbus, Georgia, spotlighting underserved communities and survivors of domestic violence. A Los Angeles native raised in Atlanta, she graduated Magna Cum Laude from Hampton University, where she captained the women’s golf team. Jessi is a member of SGI-USA, NABJ, Women in Golf Foundation, and the Hampton University Alumni Association. In 2023, she was inducted into the Hall of Fame at Hampton’s Scripps Howard School of Journalism. A proud sneakerhead and golfer, she also enjoys yoga and long walks with her dog, Scotty.
