Many may see recycling as a net gain, citing how it keeps materials from being thrown out indefinitely. However, what's very often overlooked is how recycling can be used to shift responsibility away from companies and onto consumers, especially by shifting focus away from reduction and reuse, without meaningful shifts in material from the company. I'm a high school junior with a strong interest in public speaking, an activity that I recently gained more interest in, thanks to my school's MUN and, of course, TEDx. For my topics, I usually enjoy talking about not just things that change individuals but also about things that can benefit society as a whole. This talk addresses the phenomenon of bystanderism which refers to an individual’s lack of response in an emergency situation due to the presence of bystanders. it goes from showing the causes to the main effects using real life egyptian cases, and finally solutions. the hook and ending are tied together using the most major case of bystanderism in the field of psychology: kitty genovese. IB psychology student hoping to major in it with a deep passion for it. she aims to give people a better understanding of each-other as she does the same for herself. with this talk specifically she aimed to bring attention for our need for pro-activity as a society, and our duties towards one another by first addressing the psychological root cause, and working around that. Fascinated by life-improving solutions, George—together with a team of specialists—built the first premium passive house in Romania, the ninth of its kind in the world.
