I’m Ko Yu-Cheng, someone driven by curiosity and a passion for cross-cultural connection. Through Taiwan’s Global Pathfinders Initiative, I was selected to represent youth in Philadelphia after completing the written application and interview process. There, we engaged with local young leaders, visited key institutions and officials, and even organized the first-ever Taiwan Night in Philadelphia. This journey taught me one thing clearly: when you dare to dream and take the first step, possibilities unfold. Through this talk, I hope to inspire you to believe that your dreams become real the moment you choose to pursue them. I am Yu-Cheng Ko, a naturally curious person who loves taking on new challenges. I enjoy cross-cultural exchange and have participated in short-term exchange programs in Australia and Singapore through Mingdao. I also represented Taiwan in the World Youth Chess Championship. This year, during high school, I joined a special program that allowed me to seize a unique opportunity — to step onto a broader international stage, grow through the experience, and transform myself. Homeschooling — officially known as applying for Individual Experimental Education — is rare. With so few of us compared to the crowds in traditional schools, homeschoolers often seem mysterious and easy to label. I was homeschooled through elementary school, then joined a private junior high later on. At first, I learned alongside my mom, figuring out how to self-study while trying hard to shake off those labels. Then, when I stepped into my dream private school, my dad helped me redefine what being “a homeschooler” could mean. This is the story of me and my label — how we fought, made peace, and now walk forward together. Homeschooling isn’t just a system, it’s a skill; a label isn’t only a stigma, it can be a badge. What I hope listeners take away is this: we all carry labels, but we can choose whether they confine us or become a badge that pushes us forward. From kindergarten through sixth grade, I was homeschooled, attending a few classes each week at my local elementary school. It wasn’t until my first year of junior high that I began a full-time school life within the formal education system. Now, as a second-year student, I’m working hard to adapt — transitioning from self-directed learning to structured schooling. In the past, I spun on my own axis; now, I’m learning to orbit in harmony with others. - 8:50Bands of life, for optimum balance | Sunil Sharma | TEDxRajouri GardenIn this talk, Sunil Sharma stresses upon remaining grounded in successes, and recovering from failures of life.He relates to a tough lesson he received early in life. A sudden success, and the resulting admiration of well meaning friends had made him complacent and over confident. He lost focus and failed to reach a much bigger goal - clearing the IIT entrance, one of the toughest competition exams in India. He recovered slowly, but made humility and balance the pillars of his life. One should stay away from extremes, especially of ego, followed by other areas of life.Honouring the eternal concept of The Golden Mean by Confucius, he added his humble thoughts of making flexible bands to handle five major areas of life, as we age: health and fitness; relationships; career and finance; personality; and spiritual evolution, ultimately leading to good deeds. He briefly quotes good research works to make the point. He ends on a light note, while reminding to stay away from the blindfolds. An NTSE Scholar and Chemical Engineer from Panjab University.
