How reconnecting with the ocean can empower women | Aminath Zuna | TEDxSNS YOUTH

On an island nation surrounded by water, many women lack the basic life skill of swimming. Aminath Zuna shares her journey of teaching women in the Maldives how to swim to help them connect more deeply with their ecosystem. Aminath Zuna is the founder of Salted Ventures Swimmers (SVS), a swim school in Malé, Maldives, offering lessons for all ages and SSI-certified swim and snorkel instructor courses. A former competitive swimmer, her passion for the ocean began in childhood and evolved into a career in swim education. Since 2022, she has co-led the Ocean Women Project, training instructors across islands to foster community-based ocean literacy. With over 1,000 students taught and 30+ instructors trained, Zuna is dedicated to building ocean-minded communities and creating a ripple effect of sustainable, inclusive engagement with the sea for future generations. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at https://www.ted.com/tedx
