12:07She didn’t ask for this - what disability can teach us | Daphne Frias | TEDxCambridge UniversityDaphne Frias argues that we have never really reckoned with what disability is. We reach for the language of diagnosis, degraded, damaged, impaired, and we say it with shame, because we have always treated disability as something to fix rather than something to understand. Frias asks us to sit with a harder idea: that the systems keeping any of us alive were never separate from the question of who gets left out when they fail. Disability, in her telling, is not a deviation from the norm but a body of knowledge, adaptive, collective, built for constraint. It is exactly the knowledge a warming world requires. The more fragile our systems become, the more disabled wisdom has to lead Daphne Frias is a Forbes 30 Under 30 activist, disability advocate, and leading voice for gun violence prevention and voting rights. As New York State Director for March For Our Lives, she helped advance more than 15 statewide gun safety laws. She also founded Box the Ballot, mobilizing youth to collect over 20,000 absentee ballots.
