私たちが暮らす地球は、なぜこれほど特別なのでしょうか。火星や金星にも水はあるのに、なぜ地球のように滴るように豊かな液体の水は存在しないのか。地球が備えた奇跡的な条件を振り返りつつ、火星の過去をたどり、「第二の地球」を探す未来への挑戦を考えます。Why is Earth so uniquely special? Mars and Venus harbor water, yet neither sustains the freely flowing liquid water that defines our world. This talk revisits the rare conditions that made Earth a planet where liquid water runs free, explores Mars’s ancient past, and looks ahead to the challenges of finding a true “Second Earth.” Lecturer at the Department of Complexity Science and Engineering, Department of Frontier Sciences, University of Tokyo Using planetary exploration probes and large telescopes, he observes the atmospheres of Venus and Mars, conducting research on Earth-like planets that once contained large amounts of water.
