Poucos se dão conta de um movimento quase imperceptível que gera consequências drásticas: o aumento do nível do mar, que atinge mais de 2 bilhões de pessoas que vivem em zonas costeiras. A geóloga Valdenira Santos nos traz encaminhamentos urgentes para evitar catástrofes iminentes. Valdenira é uma geóloga apaixonada pela Amazônia Costeira que dedica sua vida a desvendar os mistérios das transformações dos ambientes costeiros no encontro da vasta foz do rio Amazonas com o mar. Com um doutorado em Geologia e Geofísica Marinha e uma carreira dedicada à pesquisa, ela tem contribuído largamente para a compreensão da dinâmica e dos desafios da região. Seus estudos pioneiros sobre a pororoca na foz do Amazonas são um marco na pesquisa científica brasileira. Valdenira é uma voz ativa na defesa do uso racional e sustentável dos ecossistemas costeiros e marinhos da Amazônia e, através do Observatório Popular do Mar-OMARA, ela mobiliza a sociedade civil para a conservação dos oceanos. Em 2022 foi reconhecida como Cientista Inspiração Sênior pela Cátedra UNESCO para a Sustentabilidade do Oceano e Liga das Mulheres pelo Oceano.
