When Pain Becomes Proof We're the Problem | Jonaki Arora | TEDxYouth@TheShriramMillenniumSchoolNoida
Jonaki's talk challenges the deep-rooted stigma around survivors of sexual assault, showing how the system often shifts blame from perpetrators to victims. She reveals how survivors' pain is twisted into "proof" they are the problem, silencing them and protecting abusers. Drawing from personal and observed experiences, Jonaki exposes the roles of cultural conditioning, fear, and institutional negligence in perpetuating victim-blaming. She calls for empathy, legal reform, and collective responsibility, urging a shift in narrative to hold systems and perpetrators accountable. Her message pushes for a society where survivors are believed, supported, and empowered to seek justice without shame. Jonaki loves working with children and young people because she enjoys their company more than adults! Through her work as a psychologist she hopes to connect with young people, and help them find a safe space to explore their difficulties and reconnect with their skills and abilities. She has a double Master's degree. She did her first Master's degree in Educational and Developmental Psychology from Monash University, Australia and recently, she has completed another Master's degree in Narrative Therapy and Community Work from University of Melbourne (in collaboration with Dulwich Centre, Australia).
Her 15 years of experience in mental healthcare includes working with children, adolescents, young adults, parents, teachers, and social workers. Jonaki deeply resonates with narrative philosophy that roots for social justice, collaboration, respect, and looks at the social-political context of the person and the problem in therapy.
