Flow in Action: Real-Life Stories from the Classroom | Dennis Bennett | TEDxRDFIS Youth

Dr. Dennis offered us a distinctly different perspective. As the Director of English Studies at the international school, he openly shared his experience as an "atypical straight-A student": "When I was young, I strongly resisted standardized learning. Yet, it was this unconventional experience that shaped me into a far better educator." Drawing on a wealth of global teaching cases, he profoundly revealed the implicit and close connection between flow experience and intrinsic motivation. I am originally from the United States and have spent nearly a decade living in China. Growing up as an army brat, I moved frequently, experiencing diverse cultures across the globe. My academic journey took me to Germany, where I studied for nearly three years before completing my bachelor's degree at the University of Maryland back in the USA. After starting my teaching career, I pursued further education, earning a master’s in education and a doctorate in psychology. My teaching experience spans a wide range, from kindergarten classrooms to university lectures, allowing me to engage with students at every level. Outside of my professional life, one of my greatest joys is traveling the world with my wife, Sandy. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at https://www.ted.com/tedx
