Past the Test: Teaching Students to Think, Not Just Memorize | Talya Uyar | TEDxYaşamTasarımSchools
students are focused on memorizing content for exams, which doesn’t equip them with the essential skills needed for real-world challenges. The system fails to teach students how to communicate effectively, think critically, or express their ideas. Despite years of studying, many students lack the social skills and creativity necessary to succeed in life and work. The point of knowledge becomes meaningless if students cannot explain or apply it in real-world situations. To address this, we need to shift our focus from rote memorization to teaching creativity. Creativity allows students to think, solve problems, and connect knowledge to practical life. In today’s world, where many of our problems are self-inflicted, we need more than just facts; we need the ability to innovate and lead. Without fostering creativity, schools are simply training students to follow instructions, not to lead and create change.
