How Can We Use Music to Share Ideas? | Curtis Jacobson & Yibai (MJ) Mei | TEDxYouth@YCYWShanghai

In this innovative project, the Grade 3 learners harnessed both Eastern Pentatonic and Western Diatonic scales to create an original musical piece. They used AI to merge individual class poems into one collective work, then composed bespoke melodies and lyrics—with a powerful pentatonic chorus—to deliver a message about protecting Asia’s unique wildlife. By incorporating live instruments into their performance, the students demonstrated how music can be a dynamic medium for passionately expressing and promoting important ideas. Curtis is a Grade 3 student in Tongxiang, China. He has demonstrated exceptional talent and leadership by taking on leading roles in Primary School Plays. He has shown strong cultural engagement in music, notably through his participation in the school's Vocal Ensemble. Curtis is diligent, with a consistently positive and energetic spirit, actively contributing to the performing arts and all aspects of school life.Yibai is a Grade 3 student in Tongxiang, China.
