Why every community needs a food forest | Aly Tharp | TEDxAustin College

As climate change and habitat loss continue to destabilize ecosystems and communities the world over, people are looking for solutions that are tangible and achievable in a modern context. Food forests are an ancient land-management and agricultural practice that is seeing a resurgence, and for good reason! Learn more about what food forests are, how they benefit people and the planet, and why cities and communities should invest in them. Aly Tharp lives in Austin, Texas, and has ten years of experience in community organizing for climate change mitigation and environmental justice. She is the Nutrition and Wellness Manager at RBJ Senior Housing, an independent living community where she runs a food pantry and other community programs. Aly is also a core leader of Festival Beach Food Forest, a grassroots community organization growing edible and medicinal landscapes on public parkland that nourish, educate and inspire. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at https://www.ted.com/tedx
