Solve Your FOMO Trait by Living Like a Product | Arvin Zulfikar | TEDxTelkom University
This talk explores how students can overcome FOMO (Fear of Missing Out) and shift their focus from chasing external validation to building true personal growth by “living like a product.” Through relatable examples of different student paths, the speaker emphasizes that growth is not about joining endless organizations, winning competitions, or stacking up achievements, but about intentionally developing skills, values, and features that align with one’s life goals. Using the RISA framework (Relevance, Innovation, Strategy, Adaptability), the talk encourages the audience to understand their context, choose the right processes, and commit to a timeline that fits their energy and purpose. Drawing from personal experience — from being a freshman with clear goals, to graduating in 3.5 years, winning awards, and earning a scholarship abroad — the speaker shows how rejecting FOMO leads to sustainable growth. Ultimately, the talk challenges the audience with a powerful closing question: “What kind of product do you want to become?” a lifelong learner and the kind of speaker who doesn’t just talk change, he lives it. From leading Bank Indonesia scholarship movements to initiating impactful student training, Arvin embodies what it means to serve through knowledge. On our stage, he’ll unravel a narrative about trusting yourself in silence, adapting like a product, but never compromising your core. His journey? It’s a lesson in sociology and selfhood all at once. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. - 13:11How I Reclaimed My Voice | Sabeen Hamood | TEDxLGS OPF Girls YouthIn this compelling talk, Sabeen traces the journey from self-doubt to self-definition, revealing how purpose, perseverance, and an unyielding desire to be seen can turn fear into fuel. But this isn’t just a personal victory; it’s a challenge to every stereotype that tells young women, especially from the Global South, that they must shrink to fit the mold.Through moments of vulnerability, fierce ambition, and fearless risk-taking, Sabeen explores how true power is not inherited; it’s built. Brick by brick. Word by word. And it begins the moment you stop waiting for permission to matter. This talk is a call to anyone who has ever felt overlooked or underestimated: Own your story. Embrace your voice. And never underestimate the fire that lives inside a girl who’s told she can’t — and dares to anyway. Hello! My name is Sabeen, and I’m currently a 2nd year student in LUMS.I’ve been an enthusiastic participant in the public speaking space and have participated in multiple Model UN conferences throughout my Highschool. In February of 2024, I proudly represented Pakistan at the Harvard National Model UN conference in the United States, where I became the first Pakistani to win the esteemed Best Delegate Award. My team also defended the Best Delegation title. After the conference, I had the honour of being invited to meet state officials such as the President and the Chief Minister of Punjab, alongside social leaders such as Mr Babar Ali, the founder of LUMS. Our victory was also publicly celebrated by many news outlets and media organisations including ARY, BOL and PTV.I hold a strong passion for community service which is exemplified through my organisation Shanakht, which hosts podcasts, yearly donation drives and nationwide internship programmes. Through Shanakht we aim to foster discourse, give back to society in a meaningful way, and train the leaders of tomorrow. My experience travelling abroad to an international conference hosting multiple delegations of various nations, and emerging victorious from amongst them, has deepened my passion for sparking public awareness regarding the importance of dialogue, discussion and discourse - particularly for the young, the women, and the marginalised. - 15:59Resisting the Odds: Redefining Dreams Through Resilience | Kiran Faheem | TEDxLGS OPF Girls YouthIn her talk, Kiran Faheem opens up about a life marked by adversity but defined by perseverance. Growing up with an absent father, a disabled brother, and parents struggling with their own trauma, she was surrounded by instability from an early age. Academic pressure, financial struggles, and unfulfilled dreams added to the weight she carried. When her mother passed away, Kiran fell into depression, confronted with the cycle of generational trauma that threatened to hold her back. But instead of giving in, she resisted. Against all odds, she returned to her education later in life, a decision many would consider too late. She pursued her master’s, continued to an MPhil, and ultimately earned her PhD; her achievements were made possible not because her path was smooth, but because she refused to stop walking it. Alongside her academic pursuits, she built a small business designing clothes, proving that resilience is not only about survival but about creating new opportunities from hardship.Kiran’s story is a testament to the power of persistence: that chasing dreams is not defined by what you couldn’t achieve, but by your ability to rise again after setbacks. Her journey shows that even when the odds are stacked against you, resistance can turn pain into purpose, and perseverance can transform failure into fulfillment. With 14 years of designing experience at her MM Alam Road outlet, a passion for teaching, and hosting at FM 100, Kiran is thrilled to bring her journey to the TEDx stage. With an innate passion for design, she views fashion as a canvas for personal and cultural expression. Through meticulous attention to detail and innovative concepts, Kiran blends fabrics, colors, and textures to tell stories that transcend trends and resonate with individuality. Each piece she creates is a testament to her belief that fashion is more than just clothing—it's a powerful form of artistic expression that empowers and inspires. She is eager to inspire the next generation through her unique story and experiences.“With an innate passion for design, I see fashion as a canvas for personal and cultural expression. Each piece is a testament to my belief that fashion is more than just clothing - it's a form of artistic expression that empowers and inspires”— Kiran This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. - 10:08Changing the Script & Rewriting the Stories Within | Mashal Peerzada | TEDxLGS OPF Girls YouthIn this reflective and empowering talk, Mashal Peerzada invites us to take a closer look at the internal scripts we live by, the quiet assumptions, inherited beliefs, and self-imposed limitations that often go unexamined. Drawing from personal experience and universal insight, she explores the subtle but powerful ways our inner narratives can hold us back, even when they were once meant to protect us.This isn’t about toxic positivity or rewriting reality with blind optimism. It’s about the courage to revise the stories that no longer serve us and the wisdom to know when they’ve expired. Because for our lives to evolve, our narratives must evolve too.Through honest storytelling and a call to deep self-inquiry, this talk reminds us that empowerment doesn’t always begin with action; sometimes, it begins with the question: What story am I telling myself right now, and is it helping me grow? Mashal is a third-generation theatre and film maker who has grown up backstage and on-set. As a child of two worlds, her most passionate belief is the magical power of storytelling in creating inclusive, cross-cultural narratives. She commits her work at Yellow Brick to the idea that the arts empower people and that people can change the world.Trained at The Royal Academy of Dramatic Art in London and a graduate of the New York Film Academy in Los Angeles, Mashal is a writer and director for theatre and television and has worked across Pakistan, the US, and the UK.Mashal created Xtravaganza, Pakistan's first youth performing arts festival and awards - a mega event that showcased 16 plays in 15 days and culminated in a multi-band concert.
