Dr. Sue Ann Zachariah sheds light on the suspended lives of the transgender community in India, caught between identity and survival. Her talk challenges the automatic association of transgender lives with sex work and exposes how constant social neglect, exclusion, and silence push many into the margins. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. She completed her MBBS and MD, then continued with a Fellowship in HIV Medicine and a Master’s in Public Health. Working at Government Medical College, Kottayam since 2001, she served as the Medical Officer in charge of the HIV Clinic from 2006 to 2011. She is also an Associate Professor. She has been the Nodal Officer for the Transgender Clinic at Government Medical College, Kottayam since its inception in 2017, which has sparked a new light of hope for the minority transgender community.
