How Clean Gold Can Change Africa | Dr. Chad Michael Altieri Esq | TEDxSTU
Rooted in sustainability and equity, Dr. Altieri’s recent TED Talk, “How Clean Gold Can Change Africa,” unveiled a groundbreaking strategy to unite African artisanal miners under a transparent federation. By leveraging his work on the ground in Africa and cutting-edge technology, Dr, Altieri is championing clean mineral supply chains that align with global compliance standards, an initiative poised to reshape the future of ethical trade. His work addresses one of the most pressing challenges of our time: the opaque and untraceable strategic mineral supply chains that are often sold to big tech companies, where a lack of transparency raises significant ethical and regulatory concerns.
In an era defined by the intersection of geopolitics, climate imperatives, and technological transformation, access to critical and strategic minerals has emerged as a cornerstone of global security, economic stability, and diplomatic leverage. As the world pivots toward renewable energy, electrified transport, and digitized infrastructure, the minerals that fuel this transition—gold, cobalt, lithium, tantalum, tin—have become the modern-day arteries of national resilience. No region is more central to
this conversation than the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), a nation endowed with extraordinary mineral wealth but plagued by structural instability, historical exploitation, and illicit trade networks that have undermined both its sovereignty and global market integrity.
This talk is both a warning and an invitation: a warning that failure to establish transparent, ethical, and well-governed mineral trade pathways will result in further entrenchment of adversarial powers in the supply chain; and an invitation to embrace a new paradigm—one built on partnership, compliance, traceability, and shared prosperity.
The Clean Gold® Framework model presented is not theoretical. It is born of lived experience, regional engagement, field implementation, and a doctoral study culminating in the first-ever traceable, compliant gold export from a Blue Status artisanal mine in the DRC.
It integrates global AML/CTF standards, OECD and FATF guidance, responsible sourcing protocols, and blockchain-backed transparency into a unified system that is capable of real-world deployment. It envisions the formalization of artisanal mining, the transformation of illicit networks into tax-compliant trade routes, and the repositioning of strategic allies—such as the United States and the United Arab Emirates—as ethical stewards of mineral trade flows that are currently dominated by opaque interests.
More than a supply chain solution, this talk advances a vision: a vision of how economic diplomacy, corporate compliance, and ethical trade can serve as tools of stability and influence. It urges policymakers, investors, and global institutions to view mineral sourcing not simply as a matter of procurement, but as a question of values—of whether the future will be built on transparency or corruption; on empowerment or exploitation.
As nations rethink their dependencies and restructure global alliances, the question is no longer whether to act—but how to act. This talk offers a starting point, a blueprint, and a call to align national interests with moral imperatives in one of the most consequential theaters of the 21st century. - 7:57Your fear is your greatest opportunity | Clementina Makula | TEDxPolignano a MareImagine a radical change in life: moving to a new country, experiencing an accident, embarking on an adventure far from home. Every experience, even the most challenging, has the power to transform life in unexpected ways. Without a traumatic event, one might never truly discover the deep value of life itself. A journey into the unknown could hold the key to answering the most important question: who are you really? And when something precious, like a job, is lost, it might just be the beginning of a dream coming true. What if your biggest fear is actually a hidden opportunity? Clementina Makula is an Italian-French entrepreneur with an international background, having grown up immersed in different cultures and countries. After years of dealing with gut issues related to food intolerances and poor eating habits, she discovered the transformative power of nutrition and holistic wellness during the lockdown. It was during that time—after losing her job—that she decided to turn a crisis into an opportunity. Sensing a gap in the market, she founded Clemi’s Market, a wellness brand born on social media that combines taste, transparency, and functionality. Today, Clemi’s Market has thousands of loyal customers, is available in over 120 retail locations – including Esselunga – and continues to grow with a clear mission: to make wellness accessible, simple, and authentic, starting with what we put on our plates every day.
