How chemists create computers | Albert Wong | TEDxTwenteU
Can chemistry uncover new possibilities to compute? Albert Wong highlights the crucial (one) experiment in his laboratory which broke the traditional chemistry frame. Networks of chemical reactions allow for continuously changing processes, opening an uncharted territory for chemistry and science at large.
Albert Wong’s career all began with one simple experiment in the lab. That experiment showed an oscillating reaction and created the foundation for his research group 10 years later. Albert is currently an Associate Professor at the University of Twente. He looks forward to sharing his fascination about how networks of chemical reactions operate in harmony to create molecular systems with memories. - 10:31Diagnosing Breast Cancer with A.I. | Meyyammai Meyyappan & Sabari Laxmi | TEDxPOWIIS YouthBreast cancer is the one of the deadliest and most common, affecting more than 2.3 million people globally per year. Meyyammai Meyyappan and have created a machine learning model as an accessible solution, to support healthcare professionals to help facilitate earlier detection and, hopefully more lives saved. A Year 12 student at Prince of Wales Island International School, Meyyammai has a keen interest in biological sciences and is an active student leader, who has championed various humanitarian causes among the student community. From debating in school corridors to delivering a TEDx talk, Sabari Laxmi’s journey has been shaped by an enduring intellectual curiosity and a commitment to purposeful change. She envisions a future not merely defined by dialogue, but by decisive, equitable action: where innovation is tempered by conscience, and advocacy becomes architecture for a more inclusive world. Grounded in empathy and driven by inquiry, Sabari hopes to amplify the voices often unheard and help reshape the systems that govern them. Gabriele Carugati is an environmental researcher and Antarctic expedition leader. He oversaw the 2024 WinterOver campaign at Concordia Station, one of the most remote and extreme scientific outposts on Earth. His work bridges ecology, resilience, and the psychological challenges of isolation.
