These insights are shared by Phitsanu Boonyuen, also known as Pujaan Long Mic, a hip-hop artist and rapper whose songs have garnered over a hundred million views on YouTube. Pujaan seamlessly blends his personal identity with Northern Thai culture in his music. Born in the rural town of Doi Luang, Chiang Rai, he developed a distinctive rap style inspired by temple lay preachers, which led him to a deeper understanding of Buddhist teachings. Phitsanu Bunyeun, also known as Pu Chan Long Mai, is a hip-hop artist and rapper. His work blends hip-hop with the identity and culture of Northern Thailand in a harmonious and melodious way.Before becoming the artist we know today, he was a young man from Doi Luang, Chiang Rai, who built his dream from scratch. He grew up with his mother taking him to the temple, where he observed and memorized the rituals and various ceremonies, which is where his stage name comes from. In the Northern Thai dialect, a lay leader who conducts temple ceremonies is called a "Pu Chan" and they often test the microphone ("long mai") before speaking. Petch Pipatchara Kaewjinda, after working with major fashion brands like Ralph Lauren, Chloé, and Givenchy, co-founded the PIPATCHARA brand with her sister, Jittrinee "Tuptim" Kaewjinda. The brand operates on a core philosophy: "If we do it and only we benefit, we won't do it. But if others—the community and the world—benefit too, we will." This mission led them to create a sustainable, community-focused brand that blends art, craft, and fashion. A key element of their work is empowering local artisans, providing them with income and a sense of purpose through their skills. Petch found her inspiration for using recycled materials in the factory's trash room, where she discovered a way to transform discarded "orphan plastics" into high-quality, export-level handcrafted goods, such as their signature bags that have been seen on celebrities like Anne Hathaway. This has affected major rivers and the people of Chiang Rai, including the Kok, Sai, Ruak, and Mekong rivers. The pollution stems from illegal mining operations in Myanmar, a crisis that deeply impacts local communities, yet is driven by minerals distributed and consumed across the world. Pianporn Deetes is the Regional Campaign Director of International Rivers and an environmental activist specializing in river conservation, particularly the Mekong River. She works to raise awareness about the importance of rivers and the impacts of dam construction, as well as advocate for policy changes that protect the rights of rivers and ecosystems.Pianporn’s passion for this work began in childhood, when she accompanied her mother to remote areas. She began working seriously on environmental causes after working with labor organizations and the Southeast Asia Rivers Network. She is currently working intensively on the issue of toxic river pollution caused by rare earth mining, which affects key rivers and communities in Chiang Rai. Promporn (Khun Nong) is a specialist in organizational management and urban development, with over 25 years of experience as a business consultant and senior executive in both the public and private sectors. She currently serves as CEO of the Chiang Rai City Development Company (CRCD), a social enterprise dedicated to driving the creative economy in Chiang Rai. Additionally, she acts as the Focal Point for the UNESCO Creative Cities Network and has been selected as Deputy Coordinator of the Design Subnetwork—an important international role.Khun Nong began her career by establishing a business consulting firm in 2002, providing services to top organizations both within Thailand and abroad. Her approach focuses on tailoring sustainability for each organization, encompassing strategic planning, organizational structuring, financial and accounting system design, as well as the integration of digital information systems. The United Nations declared 2025 the International Year of Quantum, about 100 years after quantum mechanics was initially developed. And yet, teaching quantum mechanics is still quite difficult compared to before. What if there was a way to visualise quantum-like effects right in front of our eyes? Associate Professor Tapio Simula was awarded a D.Sc. (Tech.) degree in physics in 2003 by Helsinki University of Technology. He then held postdoctoral positions in New Zealand, Denmark, and Japan before moving to Australia as a Monash Research Fellow in 2010. In 2019 he became an Australian Research Council (ARC) Future Fellow at Swinburne University of Technology.Tapio is a physicist with broad interests in quantum technologies. His computational, theoretial and experimental research ranges from ultracold atoms, Bose-Einstein condensates, superfluidity, quantised vortices, quantum turbulence, topological quantum computation and analogue gravity to Floquet driven droplet systems that break time-translation symmetry.
