"ใครจะรู้ว่าภัยพิบัติอยู่ๆ จะมาถึงหัวนอนของเรา" น้ำที่เราต้องกินต้องใช้ทุกวันน่าสงสัยและอันตราย เพราะแม่น้ำเปื้อนสารพิษจากการทำเหมืองแร่แรร์เอิร์ธ ที่กระทบกับแม่น้ำสายสำคัญและคนเชียงรายใคร ทั้งแม่น้ำกก สาย รวก โขง ผลจากการทำเหมืองเถื่อนในเมียนมา เรื่องที่กระทบคนพื้นถิ่น แต่เกิดจากแร่ที่กระจายไปทั่วโลก“Who would have known that disaster could suddenly arrive right at our doorstep?” The water we rely on every day, for drinking and daily use, has become suspicious and dangerous, as rivers are contaminated by toxic substances from rare earth mining. This has affected major rivers and the people of Chiang Rai, including the Kok, Sai, Ruak, and Mekong rivers. The pollution stems from illegal mining operations in Myanmar, a crisis that deeply impacts local communities, yet is driven by minerals distributed and consumed across the world. Pianporn Deetes is the Regional Campaign Director of International Rivers and an environmental activist specializing in river conservation, particularly the Mekong River. She works to raise awareness about the importance of rivers and the impacts of dam construction, as well as advocate for policy changes that protect the rights of rivers and ecosystems.Pianporn’s passion for this work began in childhood, when she accompanied her mother to remote areas. She began working seriously on environmental causes after working with labor organizations and the Southeast Asia Rivers Network. She is currently working intensively on the issue of toxic river pollution caused by rare earth mining, which affects key rivers and communities in Chiang Rai.
