15:19From entropy to innovation: finding ? in chaos | George Pavlidis | TEDxDUTHGeorge Pavlidis draws a fascinating parallel between entropy, chaos, and innovation, arguing that every great discovery begins at "chaos.0", the moment a crack appears in the existing order. Drawing from his work at the Athena Research Center in Xanthi-Greece, where he uses AI and 3D digitization to preserve cultural heritage, he shows how research is itself an act of finding hidden patterns within disorder, and how embracing chaos is the only path to something truly new. George Pavlidis (Senior Member IEEE) received his diploma and PhD in Electrical and Computer Engineering, for which he was awarded the Ericsson Award of Excellence in Telecommunications. He is a Research Director at the Athena Research Center, where he heads the Media, Speech and Content Technologies Department. His research focuses on digital image and multimedia technologies, content analysis and retrieval, machine learning and artificial intelligence, digital humanities, humanities computing, cultural informatics, 3D digitization, and cross-reality applications. 11:59Εντροπία και Εγκληματολογία | Maria Tsiliakou | TEDxDUTHMaria Tsiliakou explores the surprising link between entropy and criminology, showing how the breakdown of social institutions like family, education, and community creates the conditions for crime to flourish. Drawing from Durkheim to Luhmann, she argues that social disorder is not just a backdrop to crime but its very engine, and that understanding entropy might be our sharpest tool yet for preventing it rather than merely punishing it. Dr. Maria Tsiliakou is a Supreme Court Attorney and Senior Legal Counsel at ABB for Greece and Cyprus, with over 25 years of experience in international commercial and business law. She holds a PhD and MA in Criminology and an LL.M in International Commercial Law. 13:08Ηγεσία σε εντροπικούς καιρούς: δημιουργώντας νόημα και αξία | Panagiotis Gkorezis | TEDxDUTHPanagiotis Gkorezis tackles a silent epidemic in modern workplaces: organizational entropy — the slow drain of energy, purpose and connection that leaves employees disengaged. Backed by a striking 2025 global study showing only 1 in 10 European workers feel truly connected to their job, he argues that the antidote isn't better systems or processes, but leaders who offer something far more fundamental: meaning. Panagiotis Gorezis is an Associate Professor in the Department of Economics at the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki. 14:23Έχει η γλώσσα χάος και τάξη; Γλωσσική εντροπία και γλωσσικό αποτύπωμα | Maria Mitsiaki | TEDxDUTHMaria Mitsiaki reveals that language, like all living systems, is governed by entropy — constantly evolving, branching and resisting order. From ancient Greek to Gen Z slang to AI-generated text, she shows that what we call "wrong" language is often just language being alive, and that the real threat to linguistic diversity isn't chaos — it's the creeping standardization quietly imposed by the machines we talk to every day. Maria Mitsiaki is an Associate Professor at the Department of Humanities of the Democritus University of Thrace, specializing in the teaching of Greek as a second language. She holds a PhD in Applied Linguistics from Aristotle University of Thessaloniki and has taught in Greece and abroad. Her research focuses on language education, academic literacy, curriculum design, and language assessment. She has contributed extensively to national and international educational programs, including curriculum development for Greece, Cyprus, and the Greek diaspora. With over 80 publications and 100 conference presentations, she is actively involved in shaping educational policy, currently serving on the Board of the Institute of Educational Policy. From hundreds of silent rejections to walking for a major fashion week, his talk is a reminder that authenticity isn't a trend or a filter, it's a daily choice, and the most radical thing you can do in a noisy world is let your own voice be the loudest one you listen to. Jo Dennys, often simply known as Dennys, is a 21-year-old Greek queer and gender-fluid model and influencer from Xanthi. Through fashion, image, and digital presence, Dennys explores identity beyond stereotypes and brings visibility to more fluid, honest ways of being. 20:11Η Τεχνητή Νοημοσύνη και η Αναγέννηση της Υγείας | Ioanna Pervou | TEDxDUTHIoanna Pervou asks the question that healthcare professionals, patients and policymakers are all quietly wrestling with: can AI genuinely transform healthcare, and should we let it? Moving from early diagnosis to drug development to the doctor-patient relationship, she argues that AI's greatest gift to medicine isn't replacing human judgment, but buying doctors back the one thing the system has always stolen from them, time to actually care for their patients. Dr. Ioanna Pervou is an Assistant Professor of Public International Law at the Democritus University of Thrace. She holds postgraduate degrees in public international law (University of Cambridge), administrative law (Democritus University of Thrace), and healthcare management (American College of Thessaloniki).
