Why college applications work (even if you think they don’t) | Shaurya Gulani | TEDxSaintFrancisHS
Not a PowerPoint on how to get into your dream school, not a senior bashing the admissions process to compensate for their rejections, this is an appreciation for the beauty in preparing for college applications. You can sacrifice and work your hardest, just to get rejected from your dream colleges. But the system works, just not the way society thinks.Shaurya Gulani is a junior at Saint Francis High School in Mountain View, California. - 16:15The Power Within: A Journey of Renewal | Aadi Sakhalkar | TEDxOWIS Nanyang YouthIn this talk, “The Power Within: A Journey of Renewal,” I reflect on the challenges many of us face as students, things like pressure, comparison, and self-doubt and how these struggles can lead to personal growth when channelled properly. I share my own experiences with academic setbacks and how adopting a growth mindset helped me transform failure into motivation. I talk about the importance of resilience, self-reflection, and kindness toward oneself, emphasising that every obstacle is an opportunity to improve. My message is that success is built not just on results, but on perseverance, learning, and the belief that we all have the power to rise above our challenges and find within ourselves what made us great in the first place. I’m Aadi Sakhalkar, a 17-year-old student at OWIS, and I’ve been part of this school community since Grade 5. Now in 12B, I chose to speak about overcoming academic adversity, a topic that truly resonated with me at this stage in life, when academic challenges often felt overwhelming. Through my speech, I wanted to remind others that setbacks were a natural part of growth and that it was okay to stumble, as long as we rose again with determination. I learned that temporary failures shouldn’t cloud our vision, because the path to happiness and success is never a straight line. I’m passionate about self-improvement and strive every day to become a better version of myself, believing that consistent, incremental growth is essential for both personal development and fulfilment. - 3:58The Power of Purpose | Dhruv Sapra | TEDxOWIS Nanyang YouthHaving a strong driving force or motivation in life can greatly ease the journey toward success by helping individuals overcome the obstacles they encounter along the way. When people possess a clear purpose, they are able to focus their energy and maintain their vision even during difficult times. Motivation acts as the internal fuel that sustains resilience, guiding individuals to push forward despite setbacks. It provides clarity and direction, allowing one to align their actions with long-term goals. For instance, a student aspiring to become a doctor uses this motivation to stay dedicated, overcome challenges such as exams and interviews, and follow the right path toward her dream career. A 17 year old IBDP student excelling in his academics who faces pressure in all aspects, mainly regarding his purpose and motivations in life.
