What Happens When We Lose Ourselves To Tech | Victor Gbesimi Odele | TEDxJewels Leading Lights Youth
This talk, “What Happens When We Lose Ourselves to Technology," by Victor, is a soulful reminder that while technology connects us, it must not replace us.In a world obsessed with speed, screens, and seamless replies, what are we losing? Real connection? Emotional presence? Our own voices?Victor delivers a compelling and poetic reflection on what it means to live in the digital age—where bots write our birthday wishes, friendships happen through auto-replies, and even our children are raised more by screens than by society. With moving storytelling and deep insight, he challenges us to ask: Are we really living—or just existing behind glass? This talk is not an anti-technology rant. It’s a wake-up call to reclaim our humanity in a world that’s forgetting what it means to feel, to pause, to be fully present. From playground dust to handwritten letters, from real dinner conversations to messy love songs, Victor makes a passionate case for remembering the beauty of life before algorithms.
Victor holds a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science and is currently pursuing a Master’s in Information Technology. He is globally certified in IT support and project management by Google, Microsoft, and IBM, and also holds educator certifications from both Cambridge and Microsoft.
