Should We Strive for Practicality or Dreams? | Yuen Chi Yocelin Leung | TEDxYouth@YCYWShanghai

In her TEDx talk, the speaker explores the paradox of whether one should pursue practicality or follow their dreams. Inspired by the book The Moon and the Sixpence, she reflects on the struggle between societal expectations and personal aspirations. Drawing from her experiences in art and science, she emphasises the importance of finding balance. She shares how her passion for art can coexist with a practical career in medicine, highlighting the value of creativity within STEM fields. Ultimately, she encourages others to embrace both paths, fostering a holistic approach to education and careers that allows for exploration and personal fulfilment. Yocelin is a high-school student studying in Hong Kong, China. Passionate about Art since the age of three, she has consistently achieved outstanding results in Art. Yocelin has also excelled in Science, winning second place in the Hong Kong Youth Science and Technology Innovation Competition at ten, as well as, the Royal Society of Biology's scientific drawing competition. Currently, Yocelin maintains high achievements in her Science subjects while exploring her love for drawing, singing, and playing the harp. She always finds ways to link her love for Art with her Science subjects. Yocelin believes in balancing hobbies and practical fulfilment, emphasising that both dreams and practicality can coexist harmoniously.
