Since the dawn of civilisation, the loss of a loved one has always been deeply painful. But why, in Western culture, is grief viewed solely as an individual process of sadness? Why can’t it also be a celebration of the lives we’ve lost? I believe it’s time to change our perception of grief — to make space for healthier, alternative ways of mourning. Leonard Sickinger, a student at St. George’s The British International School, is widely recognised for his bright intellect, open-minded nature, and unwavering support for those around him. But beyond the classroom accolades lies a quieter story - one of personal challenges and resilience that have profoundly shaped the thoughtful, grounded individual he is today. His journey reminds us that true strength often grows where few are watching, and that empathy and insight are often born from the struggles we carry within.
