The Power of a Fleeting Second | C. S. Unnikrishnan | TEDxBITSHyderabad

In this thought-provoking talk, we delve into the paradox of creation and destruction, exploring about how the most significant beginnings and endings often happen in the blink of an eye. From the birth of the universe to groundbreaking scientific discoveries, Prof. Unnikrishnan explores how fleeting, ephemeral moments can carry immense weight, even in the realm of scientific discoveries among the most talented minds. Yet, amidst this constant flux, there’s one force that remains steady: gravity. Drawing on both philosophical insight and scientific research, this talk reminds us that while moments may pass in an instant, the forces that shape our reality often lie beneath the surface, not at all ephemeral. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. C. S. Unnikrishnan, a physicist known for his work in gravity, quantum physics, and quantum optics, has made significant experimental and theoretical contributions. A former professor at TIFR and currently at DIAT, Pune, he pioneered gravitation experiments in India and led the creation of the country's first Bose-Einstein condensate. His key contributions include the Theory of Cosmic Relativity and Universal Action Mechanics, addressing fundamental issues in quantum mechanics. He was a key scientist in the LIGO-India project and shared prestigious prizes for gravitational wave detection. Unnikrishnan has published over 250 research papers and authored Gravity's Time.
