K-pop, culture, and the power of naming | Chuxuan Li | TEDxMyddelton College Jinhua Youth
When the view count of Chinese pop music MVs on YouTube hits 200 million, contrasting sharply with K-pop's 2.3 billion; when traditional elements like Chinese knots are misread as "Korean aesthetics" in K-pop, have we realized that this is not just a gap in numbers, but a silent contest of cultural discourse? In this global cultural collision, only by strengthening the understanding of cultural roots and actively spreading Chinese pop culture can we make the charm of the East shine uniquely on the world stage. Harmony in diversity and beauty in coexistence – this is the ideal vision of multicultural exchange. Li Chuxuan (Leo), a year 12 student from Myddleton College Jinhua. As a K-POP enthusiast, today he wants to take everyone to observe cultural collisions through the details of MVs – when Chinese knots appear on K-pop group stages, should we feel proud or be meticulous about the cultural origin?
