Africa’s Next Inventors: Creating Space for Youth in STEM | Daisy Katongo | TEDxLusaka

In a world increasingly driven by science and technology, why are so many African youth, especially girls, still left on the margins of STEM? In this visionary and deeply personal Talk, Daisy explores the dynamics that silence innovation on the continent - from colonial mindsets to resource availability - and calls for a radical shift in how we create space for young Africans in STEM. With stories of hope, resilience, and ingenuity, Daisy’s talk is a rallying cry to invest in Africa’s most untapped resource: its young thinkers, builders, and dreamers. Because the future doesn’t need saving - it needs creating. Daisy Katongo is deeply passionate about and committed to Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM). Daisy is a published author, a 2023 ISAZ STEM Fair award winner, a Beacon Scholar, and the founder of an initiative known as 'KatWish'. In 2024, she was selected to participate in TechGirls, an international summer programme. Today, she is a member of the TechGirls Alumnae Advisory Council. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at https://www.ted.com/tedx
