Forgotten on Purpose | Daniyal Asi | TEDxShar e Naw Salon
In this powerful TEDx talk, Danial Asi sits before 2,000 years of history to deliver a bold cultural reminder: Afghanistan is not simply a land of conflict, it is a civilization that has given the world poetry, philosophy, and science. From the wisdom of Avicenna to the stargazing of Al-Biruni, from the songs in mountain villages to the scent of fresh bread at dawn, he reveals a culture layered with beauty and resilience. Yet Asi’s message is also a warning: as native scripts fade and traditions are traded for fleeting trends, we risk losing more than words, we risk losing identity. Culture, he says, is not what we inherit; it’s what we choose to carry forward. Daniyal Asi is a media specialist, poet, and writer, born in Kabul, Afghanistan. He began his academic journey studying Persian Language and Literature at Kabul University, but due to circumstances, transitioned into media and cultural work. As a media specialist, he produces documentaries and educational content that reflect Afghan identity, heritage, and resilience. Through poetry, storytelling, and film, Daniyal is committed to preserving cultural memory and sparking dialogue around language, literature, and social change. But as humans, we actually have a deep appreciation for grit. We recognize and resonate with strife. We’re suspicious of shortcuts because they hide the work, the pain, the humanity. Nebraska Wesleyan alum Greg Harris is the co-founder of Quantum Workplace, an Omaha-based leader in employee feedback software. He served as its CEO for 18 years.
